What is a shutter added to an existing shopfront?
A shutter retrofit adds a new electric roller shutter to a shopfront that is staying where it is, matched as closely as we can to the existing frame.
Keeping a sound frontage and adding security is often the best use of money. We take a colour reading from your frame and choose the nearest RAL, then set the box and guides so they sit square to the opening rather than to a wall that has moved over the years.
The usual job is a surface box under the fascia. If the fascia is due for replacement anyway, it is worth asking us to price a built-in box at the same time.
What are the options?
| Surface box under the fascia | The quickest and most common route |
| Box behind a new fascia panel | Tidier, if the fascia is coming off |
| Internal shutter | Keeps the street elevation unchanged |

| Power | A spur near the box, by a qualified electrician, quoted separately |
Do you need planning permission?
An external shutter usually needs planning permission. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. An internal grille or shutter is usually the safer route, so we can advise what to check before you order.

What do people ask about shutters for existing shopfronts?
Can you match the shutter to my existing shopfront?
Usually closely. We read the frame colour at survey and pick the nearest RAL. Old powder coat fades, so an exact match is not always possible.
Does adding a shutter need planning permission?
An external shutter usually does. Many councils also say which types they will accept, so check before you order. We can advise what to ask.
Do I need electrics near the shutter?
A power supply is needed near the box, fitted by a qualified electrician. We confirm the position at survey and show the cost as its own line on the quotation.
