What happens across the West Midlands?
From city-centre units to village parades, the job starts the same way. Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton and Dudley are among the places we cover. Councils here include Birmingham, Sandwell and Walsall. Birmingham has the Soho Road and city-centre units, the Black Country has the high streets of Walsall, Dudley and West Bromwich, and Coventry and Wolverhampton are large centres. It is also home ground: our base is at Great Barr.
What is worth knowing?
Do I need a safety edge?
That depends on the risk assessment. Powered shutters near the public are assessed against BS EN 12453, and we quote what the result calls for.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.

Will this need planning permission across the West Midlands?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so your council will normally expect a planning application. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
What do people ask about shutters for existing shopfronts across the West Midlands?
Do I need planning permission for a shutter across the West Midlands?
An external shutter usually needs it, and your council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too.
Can you match the shutter to my shopfront?
Yes. We powder coat to a RAL colour to match your frame as closely as we can.
How much does a shutter added to an existing shopfront cost across the West Midlands?
For an opening up to 3 m wide, guide prices start from £1,450 plus VAT. The survey sets the final price.
Can you match the shutter to my existing shopfront?
Usually closely. We read the frame colour at survey and pick the nearest RAL. Old powder coat fades, so an exact match is not always possible.
