What is a vision roller shutter?
A vision roller shutter is a punched-lath shutter with rows of brick-shaped slots, sometimes with clear inserts, which keep the shop on show when closed.
Vision shutters show more of the window than perforated ones. They are popular on city-centre streets and in malls, where a closed shutter would look out of place. Clear inserts keep out rubbish and pests, while open slots let more air through.
The trade-off is strength and privacy. If the unit has a history of attacks, a solid or perforated curtain may suit you better.
What are the options?
| Open slots | Most air and the clearest view |
| Clear inserts | Keeps litter and weather out |
| Mixed curtain | Solid low down, vision higher up |

Do you need planning permission?
An external shutter usually needs planning permission. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. An internal grille or shutter is usually the safer route, so we can advise what to check before you order.
