An external shutter usually does. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. An internal grille or shutter is usually the safer route, so we can advise what to check before you order.
Do I need a safety edge?
That depends on the risk assessment. Powered shutters near the public are assessed against BS EN 12453, and we quote what the result calls for.
Surface box or hidden box?
A surface box under the fascia is quicker and cheaper. A hidden box looks far better, but needs height above the door head and a removable access panel.
Do you need consent across Devon?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so your council will normally expect a planning application.
