How does it work in Accrington?
Whether the unit is on the main shopping street or a local parade in Accrington, the job is measured the same way, and Hyndburn Borough Council is the council to check with.
What should you think about first?
Do I need a safety edge?
That depends on the risk assessment. Powered shutters near the public are assessed against BS EN 12453, and we quote what the result calls for.
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.
Steel or aluminium laths?
Steel is stronger and heavier. Aluminium is lighter and quieter, which helps under flats. Most shops are well served by either.

Do you need consent in Accrington?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Hyndburn Borough Council will normally expect a planning application. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
