What happens in Brynmawr?
Our surveys in Brynmawr cover postcodes including NP8, along with Ebbw Vale and Tredegar. Planning applications here go to Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, so it is worth reading any shopfront guidance it publishes before anything is drawn.
What is worth knowing?
Who is responsible if something goes wrong?
One company. Your contract is with S&K Glazing Limited for both parts, so nobody can point at the other contractor.
Why plan the frontage and shutter together?
Because the shutter box needs a home. Plan it with the fascia and it disappears. Add it later and it usually ends up on the face of the building.
Should I choose solid or perforated?
Solid gives more privacy and strength. Perforated keeps the window working at night. On the outside of a shop, some councils resist both, so check before you choose.
How much will it cost?
| Package | Up to 3 m wide | 5 to 6 m wide |
|---|---|---|
| Security package | £5,095 to £7,995 | £10,095 to £15,995 |
| Display package | £4,195 to £6,295 | £7,995 to £12,295 |
| Essential package | £3,895 to £5,995 | £7,695 to £11,995 |
Guide prices, not offers. Your written quotation sets the final figure.
Do you need consent in Brynmawr?
Probably, if it is external. Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent, and rules are set by the Welsh Government.
What do people ask about shopfront and shutter packages in Brynmawr?
Can you fit a package around my trading hours in Brynmawr?

Do you cover Brynmawr for both the shopfront and shutter?
Yes. One surveyor and one fitting team handle both parts in Brynmawr.
Who decides planning for a frontage in Brynmawr?
Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council is the planning authority. We tell you at survey what is likely to need consent.
Can the shutter box be hidden?
Usually, yes. When the frontage is new we can build the box in behind the fascia and leave an access panel for servicing. Head height above the door decides how much room there is.
