What should you check before you decide?
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
Surface box or hidden box?
A surface box under the fascia is quicker and cheaper. A hidden box looks far better, but needs height above the door head and a removable access panel.
Will this need planning permission in Thurso?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Highland Council will normally expect a planning application. In Scotland, work can also need a building warrant before it starts, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council.

Are perforated shutters as strong as solid ones?
Close to it. The holes are small and the lath keeps its shape, though a solid lath is still stronger.
