What happens in Newport?
Whether the unit is on the main shopping street or a local parade in Newport, the job is measured the same way, and Newport City Council is the council to check with.
What is worth knowing?
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.
What should you budget?

Will this need planning permission in Newport?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Newport City Council will normally expect a planning application. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent, and rules are set by the Welsh Government.
What do people ask about perforated roller shutters in Newport?
Can you match the shutter to my shopfront?
Yes. We powder coat to a RAL colour to match your frame as closely as we can.
Do I need planning permission for a shutter in Newport?
An external shutter usually needs it, and Newport City Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too.
How much does a perforated roller shutter cost in Newport?
For an opening up to 3 m wide, guide prices start from £1,750 plus VAT. The survey sets the final price.
Can you see into a shop through perforated shutters?
You can make out the display at night, not fine detail, and it depends on the lighting inside.
