How does it work in St Albans?
A frontage in St Albans has to suit the street as well as the shop. St Albans City and District Council decides what is acceptable where planning applies, so we draw with that in mind.
What should you check before you decide?
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.
What electrics are needed?
A power supply near the box, installed by a qualified electrician. We show the position on the drawing.
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.

Do you need consent in St Albans?
An external shutter normally needs planning permission from St Albans City and District Council. An internal shutter or grille often does not, so it is worth checking before you order. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
