What can you expect in Bath?
Whether the unit is on the main shopping street or a local parade in Bath, the job is measured the same way, and Bath and North East Somerset Council is the council to check with.
What is worth knowing?
What about the fascia and sign?
We set out the fascia at the same time, so your sign fixings and any shutter box do not clash. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area.
How do you deal with the threshold?
We aim for level or near-level access. New doors need thought about wheelchair and pushchair users, and we check the floor before we promise anything.
What affects the price most?
Width, the number of doors, glass type and any strip-out. A second door or a laminated upgrade moves the figure more than the colour does.
What should you budget?
| Opening width | Typical unit | Guide price plus VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 3 m | A typical single shop unit | £4,995 to £6,995 |
| 3 to 4 m | A wider single unit | £6,495 to £8,495 |
| 4 to 5 m | A double-fronted or corner unit | £7,995 to £10,295 |
| 5 to 6 m | A large double unit | £9,495 to £11,995 |
Guide prices, not offers. Your written quotation sets the final figure.
Will this need planning permission in Bath?
Usually yes, if the look of the frontage changes. Replacing like for like may not need permission, but Bath and North East Somerset Council has the final say. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
