How does it work in Sidmouth?
Whether the unit is on the main shopping street or a local parade in Sidmouth, the job is measured the same way, and East Devon District Council is the council to check with.
What makes the difference?
What affects the price most?
Width, the number of doors, glass type and any strip-out. A second door or a laminated upgrade moves the figure more than the colour does.
Should the stallriser stay?
A stallriser protects the bottom of the glass from kicks, trolleys and cleaning water. On older streets it is also part of the look.
Can I keep trading during the work?
Often, in part. Fitting days can be planned for your quiet days, and closed-day or out-of-hours work can be arranged.
How much will it cost?
| Opening width | Typical unit | Guide price plus VAT |

| 3 to 4 m | A wider single unit | £3,195 to £5,195 |
| 4 to 5 m | A double-fronted or corner unit | £3,995 to £6,495 |
| 5 to 6 m | A large double unit | £4,795 to £7,995 |

Do you need consent in Sidmouth?
Usually yes, if the look of the frontage changes. Replacing like for like may not need permission, but East Devon District Council has the final say. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
