What is worth knowing?
Can I keep trading during the work?
Often, in part. Fitting days can be planned for your quiet days, and closed-day or out-of-hours work can be arranged.
What does the written quotation show?
Every item: frame, glass, doors, stallriser, strip-out and any electrics. It stays valid for 90 days, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
Which glass should go in?
Safety glass is needed in doors, side panels and low-level panes. Laminated glass is worth the extra if the street has a history of break-ins.
Do you need consent in Gosforth?
A like-for-like replacement often does not need permission, but a visibly different frontage usually does. The application goes to Newcastle City Council. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
