What is worth knowing before you start?

Why plan the frontage and shutter together?

Because the shutter box needs a home. Plan it with the fascia and it disappears. Add it later and it usually ends up on the face of the building.

Should I choose solid or perforated?

Solid gives more privacy and strength. Perforated keeps the window working at night. On the outside of a shop, some councils resist both, so check before you choose.

Do you work on any make?

Most commercial shutters and door gear. We will tell you straight away if parts are no longer available.

Do you need consent in Cumnock?

Probably, if it is external. East Ayrshire Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. In Scotland, work can also need a building warrant before it starts, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council.
