What makes the difference?
What electrics are needed?
A power supply near the box, installed by a qualified electrician. We show the position on the drawing.
Does a shutter need planning permission?
An external shutter usually does. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. An internal grille or shutter is usually the safer route, so we can advise what to check before you order.
Surface box or hidden box?
A surface box under the fascia is quicker and cheaper. A hidden box looks far better, but needs height above the door head and a removable access panel.
Will this need planning permission in Sutton Coldfield?
Probably, if it is external. Birmingham City Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
