What should you think about first?
Surface box or hidden box?
A surface box under the fascia is quicker and cheaper. A hidden box looks far better, but needs height above the door head and a removable access panel.
Do I need a safety edge?
That depends on the risk assessment. Powered shutters near the public are assessed against BS EN 12453, and we quote what the result calls for.
Steel or aluminium laths?
Steel is stronger and heavier. Aluminium is lighter and quieter, which helps under flats. Most shops are well served by either.
Do you need consent in Penzance?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Cornwall Council will normally expect a planning application. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.

Do I need planning permission for a shutter in Penzance?
An external shutter usually needs it, and Cornwall Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too.

Vision or perforated: which shows more?
Vision shows more, as the slots are bigger. Perforated gives a softer view and a more solid look.
