What is worth knowing?
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
Surface box or hidden box?
A surface box under the fascia is quicker and cheaper. A hidden box looks far better, but needs height above the door head and a removable access panel.
Do you need consent in Mexborough?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so City of Doncaster Council will normally expect a planning application. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
