How does it work in Dumfries?
Our surveys in Dumfries cover postcodes including DG1 and DG2, along with Lockerbie and Dalbeattie. Planning applications here go to Dumfries and Galloway Council, so it is worth reading any shopfront guidance it publishes before anything is drawn.
What should you think about first?
Can the shutter match my frontage?
Yes. Curtain, box and guides are powder coated to a RAL colour to match your frame as closely as the finish allows.
Steel or aluminium laths?
Steel is stronger and heavier. Aluminium is lighter and quieter, which helps under flats. Most shops are well served by either.
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.
How much will it cost?

| 3 to 4 m | A wider single unit | £2,795 to £3,595 |

Will this need planning permission in Dumfries?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Dumfries and Galloway Council will normally expect a planning application. In Scotland, work can also need a building warrant before it starts, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council.
