How does it work in Dalkeith?
Dalkeith sits in the Lothians, and Midlothian Council is the planning authority. For most shops that means checking consent before the order is placed, not after it.
What should you check before you decide?
Steel or aluminium laths?
Steel is stronger and heavier. Aluminium is lighter and quieter, which helps under flats. Most shops are well served by either.
What electrics are needed?
A power supply near the box, installed by a qualified electrician. We show the position on the drawing.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
How much will it cost?
| Opening width | Typical unit | Guide price plus VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 3 m | A typical single shop unit | £2,195 to £2,895 |
| 3 to 4 m | A wider single unit | £2,795 to £3,595 |
| 4 to 5 m | A double-fronted or corner unit | £3,395 to £4,395 |
| 5 to 6 m | A large double unit | £3,995 to £5,195 |
Guide prices, not offers. Your written quotation sets the final figure.
Will this need planning permission in Dalkeith?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Midlothian Council will normally expect a planning application. In Scotland, work can also need a building warrant before it starts, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council.

How soon can you fit a vision roller shutter in Dalkeith?
