What happens in Cobham?
Local rules matter more than people expect. Elmbridge Borough Council handles planning for Cobham, and its view of external shutters and frontage changes shapes what we recommend.
What should you check before you decide?
Do I need a safety edge?
That depends on the risk assessment. Powered shutters near the public are assessed against BS EN 12453, and we quote what the result calls for.
Surface box or hidden box?
A surface box under the fascia is quicker and cheaper. A hidden box looks far better, but needs height above the door head and a removable access panel.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
How much will it cost?

Will this need planning permission in Cobham?
Probably, if it is external. Elmbridge Borough Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
