What can you expect across the Scottish Borders?

From city-centre units to village parades, the job starts the same way. Hawick, Galashiels, Peebles and Kelso are among the places we cover. Scottish Borders Council is the council to check with here. Hawick, Galashiels, Kelso and Peebles are stone textile and market towns.

What should you think about first?

Which glass should go in?

Safety glass is needed in doors, side panels and low-level panes. Laminated glass is worth the extra if the street has a history of break-ins.

Can it have a shutter later?

Yes, but it is far neater to allow for one now. Tell us at survey, and we will leave height behind the fascia even if the shutter comes later.

How is the frontage measured?

We measure the structural opening, not the old frame. Lintel condition, floor level and how square the opening is all get recorded at survey.

Will this need planning permission across the Scottish Borders?

Very likely. Your council will look closely at frontages in conservation areas, and any listed building needs listed building consent as well. In Scotland, work can also need a building warrant before it starts, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council.

What do people ask about timber shopfronts across the Scottish Borders?

Can you add a shutter to the new shopfront?

Yes, and it is best planned now. We can price the frontage and shutter as one job.

How much does a timber shopfront cost across the Scottish Borders?

Does a new shopfront across the Scottish Borders need planning permission?

A change to how the frontage looks usually does. Your council is the council to check with, and we advise at survey.

How do I secure a timber shopfront?

Laminated glass and internal shutters or grilles are usually the most acceptable route.
