How does it work across Dumfries and Galloway?
From city-centre units to village parades, the job starts the same way. Dumfries, Stranraer, Annan and Dalbeattie are among the places we cover. Dumfries and Galloway Council is the council to check with here. Dumfries, Annan and Lockerbie are sandstone towns, and the port of Stranraer lies in the far west.
What should you think about first?
Does a shutter need planning permission?
An external shutter usually does. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. An internal grille or shutter is usually the safer route, so we can advise what to check before you order.
How long does a shutter last?
Curtains and guides can last many years with planned servicing. Motors, springs and locks go first, and a busy shop will wear them faster.
Can the shutter match my frontage?
Yes. Curtain, box and guides are powder coated to a RAL colour to match your frame as closely as the finish allows.
How much will it cost?
| Opening width | Typical unit | Guide price plus VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 3 m | A typical single shop unit | £1,595 to £2,195 |
| 3 to 4 m | A wider single unit | £2,095 to £2,795 |
| 4 to 5 m | A double-fronted or corner unit | £2,595 to £3,395 |
| 5 to 6 m | A large double unit | £3,095 to £4,295 |

Will this need planning permission across Dumfries and Galloway?
Often not, because the outside does not change, but check with your council if the building is listed. In Scotland, work can also need a building warrant before it starts, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council.
