What can you expect in Whitehaven?
Working in Whitehaven means working with Cumberland Council on planning, and sometimes with a landlord on the lease. We flag both early, so that neither one holds up your opening date.
What should you think about first?
How long does a shutter last?
Curtains and guides can last many years with planned servicing. Motors, springs and locks go first, and a busy shop will wear them faster.
Surface box or hidden box?
A surface box under the fascia is quicker and cheaper. A hidden box looks far better, but needs height above the door head and a removable access panel.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
What are the guide prices?

Guide prices, not offers. Your written quotation sets the final figure.
Do you need consent in Whitehaven?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Cumberland Council will normally expect a planning application. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
What do people ask about perforated roller shutters in Whitehaven?
Do I need planning permission for a shutter in Whitehaven?
An external shutter usually needs it, and Cumberland Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too.
Can you match the shutter to my shopfront?
Yes. We powder coat to a RAL colour to match your frame as closely as we can.
How much does a perforated roller shutter cost in Whitehaven?
For an opening up to 3 m wide, guide prices start from £1,750 plus VAT. The survey sets the final price.
Can you see into a shop through perforated shutters?
You can make out the display at night, not fine detail, and it depends on the lighting inside.
