What is worth knowing?
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.
Do I need a safety edge?
That depends on the risk assessment. Powered shutters near the public are assessed against BS EN 12453, and we quote what the result calls for.
Do you need consent in Musselburgh?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so East Lothian Council will normally expect a planning application. In Scotland, work can also need a building warrant before it starts, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council.
What do people ask about perforated roller shutters in Musselburgh?
Can you match the shutter to my shopfront?
Yes. We powder coat to a RAL colour to match your frame as closely as we can.
How much does a perforated roller shutter cost in Musselburgh?
For an opening up to 3 m wide, guide prices start from £1,750 plus VAT. The survey sets the final price.
Do I need planning permission for a shutter in Musselburgh?
An external shutter usually needs it, and East Lothian Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too.
Are perforated shutters more likely to get planning permission?
Not reliably. Some councils accept them and others resist them, so check with your council before you order.
