What happens across County Tyrone?
We work right across County Tyrone, including Omagh, Dungannon, Strabane and Cookstown. Rules on frontages and shutters differ from one council to the next. Councils here include Fermanagh and Omagh, Mid Ulster and Derry City and Strabane. Omagh, Dungannon and Strabane are the main centres, and Cookstown is known for its very wide main street.
What should you think about first?
Can the shutter match my frontage?
Yes. Curtain, box and guides are powder coated to a RAL colour to match your frame as closely as the finish allows.
Steel or aluminium laths?
Steel is stronger and heavier. Aluminium is lighter and quieter, which helps under flats. Most shops are well served by either.
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
How much will it cost?
| Opening width | Typical unit | Guide price plus VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 3 m | A typical single shop unit | £1,750 to £2,295 |
| 3 to 4 m | A wider single unit | £2,195 to £2,895 |
| 4 to 5 m | A double-fronted or corner unit | £2,695 to £3,495 |
| 5 to 6 m | A large double unit | £3,195 to £4,295 |

Do you need consent across County Tyrone?
An external shutter normally needs planning permission from your council. An internal shutter or grille often does not, so it is worth checking before you order. In Northern Ireland, councils decide planning applications, and Building Control applications are separate. Listed buildings need listed building consent.
