What should you check before you decide?
Can the shutter match my frontage?
Yes. Curtain, box and guides are powder coated to a RAL colour to match your frame as closely as the finish allows.
How long does a shutter last?
Curtains and guides can last many years with planned servicing. Motors, springs and locks go first, and a busy shop will wear them faster.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
Do you need consent in Chelmsford?
An external shutter normally needs planning permission from Chelmsford City Council. An internal shutter or grille often does not, so it is worth checking before you order. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.

Do I need planning permission for a shutter in Chelmsford?

Are perforated shutters more likely to get planning permission?
Not reliably. Some councils accept them and others resist them, so check with your council before you order.
