What happens in Calne?
A frontage in Calne has to suit the street as well as the shop. Wiltshire Council decides what is acceptable where planning applies, so we draw with that in mind.
What should you think about first?
Does a shutter need planning permission?
An external shutter usually does. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. An internal grille or shutter is usually the safer route, so we can advise what to check before you order.
Steel or aluminium laths?
Steel is stronger and heavier. Aluminium is lighter and quieter, which helps under flats. Most shops are well served by either.
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.

Will this need planning permission in Calne?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Wiltshire Council will normally expect a planning application. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
