How does it work across Argyll and Bute?
From city-centre units to village parades, the job starts the same way. Helensburgh, Dunoon, Oban and Campbeltown are among the places we cover. Argyll and Bute Council is the council to check with here. Oban, Dunoon and Helensburgh are small seafront and harbour towns, where salt air and exposure push the choice towards tough finishes.

What should you check before you decide?
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.
Do I need a safety edge?
That depends on the risk assessment. Powered shutters near the public are assessed against BS EN 12453, and we quote what the result calls for.
Do you need consent across Argyll and Bute?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so your council will normally expect a planning application. In Scotland, work can also need a building warrant before it starts, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council.

Do I need planning permission for a shutter across Argyll and Bute?

Can you see into a shop through perforated shutters?
You can make out the display at night, not fine detail, and it depends on the lighting inside.
