What is worth knowing?
Does a shutter need planning permission?
An external shutter usually does. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. An internal grille or shutter is usually the safer route, so we can advise what to check before you order.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
Will this need planning permission in Acton?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so London Borough of Ealing will normally expect a planning application. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
What do people ask about perforated roller shutters in Acton?
Can you match the shutter to my shopfront?
Yes. We powder coat to a RAL colour to match your frame as closely as we can.
Do I need planning permission for a shutter in Acton?
An external shutter usually needs it, and London Borough of Ealing decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too.
Do you cover the postcodes around Acton?
Yes, including W3.
Are perforated shutters more likely to get planning permission?
Not reliably. Some councils accept them and others resist them, so check with your council before you order.
