What can you expect in Abergele?
A job starts the same way wherever you are: a measured survey, a look at the lintel and floor level, and a conversation about how the unit trades. We cover postcodes including LL22, and we also work nearby in Rhyl and Colwyn Bay.
What should you think about first?
Does a shutter need planning permission?
An external shutter usually does. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. An internal grille or shutter is usually the safer route, so we can advise what to check before you order.
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
How much will it cost?
| Opening width | Typical unit | Guide price plus VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 3 m | A typical single shop unit | £1,750 to £2,295 |
| 3 to 4 m | A wider single unit | £2,195 to £2,895 |
| 4 to 5 m | A double-fronted or corner unit | £2,695 to £3,495 |
| 5 to 6 m | A large double unit | £3,195 to £4,295 |

Will this need planning permission in Abergele?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Conwy County Borough Council will normally expect a planning application. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent, and rules are set by the Welsh Government.

Yes, including LL22.

Close to it. The holes are small and the lath keeps its shape, though a solid lath is still stronger.
