How does it work in Walton-on-Thames?
A frontage in Walton-on-Thames has to suit the street as well as the shop. Elmbridge Borough Council decides what is acceptable where planning applies, so we draw with that in mind.
What should you think about first?
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.
Surface box or hidden box?
A surface box under the fascia is quicker and cheaper. A hidden box looks far better, but needs height above the door head and a removable access panel.
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.

Do you need consent in Walton-on-Thames?
An external shutter normally needs planning permission from Elmbridge Borough Council. An internal shutter or grille often does not, so it is worth checking before you order. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
