How does it work in Rutherglen?
Whether the unit is on the main shopping street or a local parade in Rutherglen, the job is measured the same way, and South Lanarkshire Council is the council to check with.
What should you check before you decide?
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
How long does a shutter last?
Curtains and guides can last many years with planned servicing. Motors, springs and locks go first, and a busy shop will wear them faster.
What electrics are needed?
A power supply near the box, installed by a qualified electrician. We show the position on the drawing.

Do you need consent in Rutherglen?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so South Lanarkshire Council will normally expect a planning application. In Scotland, work can also need a building warrant before it starts, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council.
