What happens across Mid Glamorgan?
We work right across Mid Glamorgan, including Tonypandy, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Pontypridd. Rules on frontages and shutters differ from one council to the next. Councils here include Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil. Pontypridd, Merthyr Tydfil and Aberdare are valleys towns, with Bridgend and seaside Porthcawl to the south.
What should you think about first?
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
How long does a shutter last?
Curtains and guides can last many years with planned servicing. Motors, springs and locks go first, and a busy shop will wear them faster.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.

Will this need planning permission across Mid Glamorgan?
An external shutter normally needs planning permission from your council. An internal shutter or grille often does not, so it is worth checking before you order. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent, and rules are set by the Welsh Government.

Can you match the shutter to my shopfront?

Do I need planning permission for a shutter across Mid Glamorgan?
