What happens in Mayfair?
Local rules matter more than people expect. City of Westminster handles planning for Mayfair, and its view of external shutters and frontage changes shapes what we recommend.
What makes the difference?
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
Do I need a safety edge?
That depends on the risk assessment. Powered shutters near the public are assessed against BS EN 12453, and we quote what the result calls for.
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.

Do you need consent in Mayfair?
Probably, if it is external. City of Westminster decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
