How does it work in Lichfield?
Local rules matter more than people expect. Lichfield District Council handles planning for Lichfield, and its view of external shutters and frontage changes shapes what we recommend.
What is worth knowing?
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.
Do I need a safety edge?
That depends on the risk assessment. Powered shutters near the public are assessed against BS EN 12453, and we quote what the result calls for.
Steel or aluminium laths?
Steel is stronger and heavier. Aluminium is lighter and quieter, which helps under flats. Most shops are well served by either.

Will this need planning permission in Lichfield?
An external shutter normally needs planning permission from Lichfield District Council. An internal shutter or grille often does not, so it is worth checking before you order. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
