How long does a shutter last?
Curtains and guides can last many years with planned servicing. Motors, springs and locks go first, and a busy shop will wear them faster.
Surface box or hidden box?
A surface box under the fascia is quicker and cheaper. A hidden box looks far better, but needs height above the door head and a removable access panel.
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
Will this need planning permission across Lancashire?
Probably, if it is external. Your council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
