What is worth knowing?
How long does a shutter last?
Curtains and guides can last many years with planned servicing. Motors, springs and locks go first, and a busy shop will wear them faster.
What about a fire exit?
A shutter must never trap people in. If it covers an escape route, it needs to be open while the premises are occupied, or opened easily from inside.
What will my insurer want?
Some insurers name a shutter type or rating, and many ask for locks and service records. Ask them before you order, as it saves a change later.
Do you need consent in Herne Bay?
Probably, if it is external. Canterbury City Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.

Do I need planning permission for a shutter in Herne Bay?
An external shutter usually needs it, and Canterbury City Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too.
