What happens in Taunton?
Taunton sits in Somerset, and Somerset Council is the planning authority. For most shops that means checking consent before the order is placed, not after it.
What should you check before you decide?
Do I need a safety edge?
That depends on the risk assessment. Powered shutters near the public are assessed against BS EN 12453, and we quote what the result calls for.
How long does a shutter last?
Curtains and guides can last many years with planned servicing. Motors, springs and locks go first, and a busy shop will wear them faster.
What electrics are needed?
A power supply near the box, installed by a qualified electrician. We show the position on the drawing.
How much will it cost?

| 3 to 4 m | A wider single unit | £1,895 to £2,595 |

| 5 to 6 m | A large double unit | £2,895 to £3,995 |
Guide prices, not offers. Your written quotation sets the final figure.
Will this need planning permission in Taunton?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Somerset Council will normally expect a planning application. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
