What should you check before you decide?
Does a shutter need planning permission?
An external shutter usually does. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. An internal grille or shutter is usually the safer route, so we can advise what to check before you order.
What electrics are needed?
A power supply near the box, installed by a qualified electrician. We show the position on the drawing.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
Do you need consent in Magherafelt?
Usually yes, if the shutter goes on the outside. External shutters change how the building looks, so Mid Ulster District Council will normally expect a planning application. In Northern Ireland, councils decide planning applications, and Building Control applications are separate. Listed buildings need listed building consent.
