What can you expect in Crowborough?
Working in Crowborough means working with Wealden District Council on planning, and sometimes with a landlord on the lease. We flag both early, so that neither one holds up your opening date.
What should you think about first?
Can it have a shutter later?
Yes, but it is far neater to allow for one now. Tell us at survey, and we will leave height behind the fascia even if the shutter comes later.
Which colours work best?
Dark greys and black are the most requested because they frame the shop well. In a conservation area, ask us first, as colour can matter to the council.
How is the frontage measured?
We measure the structural opening, not the old frame. Lintel condition, floor level and how square the opening is all get recorded at survey.
How much will it cost?
| Opening width | Typical unit | Guide price plus VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 3 m | A typical single shop unit | £2,450 to £3,995 |
| 3 to 4 m | A wider single unit | £3,195 to £5,195 |
| 4 to 5 m | A double-fronted or corner unit | £3,995 to £6,495 |
| 5 to 6 m | A large double unit | £4,795 to £7,995 |
Guide prices, not offers. Your written quotation sets the final figure.
Will this need planning permission in Crowborough?
Usually yes, if the look of the frontage changes. Replacing like for like may not need permission, but Wealden District Council has the final say. Illuminated signs can need advertisement consent, depending on size, position and area. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
