How much does a shopfront and shutter package cost?

Our three standard packages have guide prices from £3,895 to £15,995 plus VAT, set by the width of the frontage and the materials you choose. The table shows each package across the four width bands. Every band assumes a standard height of up to about 3 m.

PackageUp to 3 m3 to 4 m4 to 5 m5 to 6 m
Essential: aluminium frontage, solid electric shutter£3,895 to £5,995£5,095 to £7,795£6,395 to £9,695£7,695 to £11,995
Display: aluminium frontage, perforated electric shutter£4,195 to £6,295£5,395 to £8,095£6,695 to £9,995£7,995 to £12,295
Security: steel frontage, solid electric shutter£5,095 to £7,995£6,595 to £10,395£8,295 to £12,895£10,095 to £15,995

All figures are guide prices plus VAT. Each one is the shopfront and the shutter added together and rounded, so a package figure is the sum of the two parts. If you are not VAT registered, add VAT at the standard rate of 20% to reach your real cost.

A typical single shop unit sits in the first band. A wider single unit sits in the second. A double-fronted or corner unit usually falls in the third, and a large double unit in the fourth. Add the widths of every glazed face if the frontage turns a corner.

What do I get for the package price?

The package price covers one shopfront and one matching shutter, surveyed, drawn, priced and fitted as a single job. In practice that means:

  • one site survey, free for new work
  • one drawing that shows the frontage, the shutter and the box together
  • one itemised written quotation, valid for 90 days
  • one contract and one fitting team
  • the same colour on the frame and the shutter
  • a written guarantee, with the terms set out on the quotation

The drawing matters more than it sounds. When the two parts come from separate firms, the shutter fitter inherits a fascia that was never designed around a box. Planning the two together means the box, the guide channels and the fascia are sized for each other before anything is made. Nothing is ordered until you accept the quotation.

Which extras add the most to the price?

An automatic sliding entrance door is the largest single extra, at a guide price of £2,495 to £4,495 plus VAT. The other four extras are smaller, and you may need none of them.

ExtraGuide price (plus VAT)When it applies
Automatic sliding entrance door£2,495 to £4,495A busy entrance, or a door some customers find hard to open by hand
Laminated security glass upgrade£695 to £1,495Stock worth protecting, or glass exposed during trading hours
Shutter box built in behind the fascia£295 to £695You want no visible box, or the council expects one to be hidden
Fire-escape override on the shutter£245 to £595The shutter crosses a route people use to escape
Special RAL colour on frame and shutter£95 to £295Your brand colour needs a specific RAL match

What would a 4 m shop pay in practice?

A shop 3 to 4 m wide on the Display package, with a built-in box, a special colour and laminated glass, has a combined guide price of £6,480 to £10,580 plus VAT.

ItemLow (plus VAT)High (plus VAT)
Display package, 3 to 4 m£5,395£8,095
Shutter box behind the fascia£295£695
Special RAL colour£95£295
Laminated security glass£695£1,495
Combined guide price£6,480£10,580

The same shop on the Essential package with no extras would start from a lower figure. Run your own combination in the quote tool, which uses the same guide prices as this page.

Why do two shops of the same width get different prices?

Height, door layout, glass and site conditions account for most of the gap between two shops of the same width. These are the points we price at survey:

  • Height. The bands assume up to about 3 m. A taller opening needs more glass and a longer shutter curtain, and a larger box to hold it.
  • Doors. A single door costs less than a pair. A recessed entrance adds side returns and a soffit.
  • Glass. One large pane costs more to make, move and fit than two smaller panes.
  • Stripping out. Removing an old frontage, then making good the stallriser and the head, varies with what is found behind it.
  • Structure. The shutter needs sound fixings at the head and sides. Rotten timber or a weak lintel changes the job.
  • Access. A busy road, restricted parking or a raised pavement adds time.
  • Power. The shutter needs a supply at the head of the opening.

Can I buy the shopfront now and add the shutter later?

Yes, and if you do, ask for the box to be drawn into the fascia now. Adding a shutter to the frontage you already have has a guide price of £1,450 to £5,195 plus VAT, and a built-in box is harder to add once the fascia is finished. A shop that expects to need a shutter within a year or two should show it on the first drawing, even if the curtain comes later. The same applies to planning, because a single application can cover both parts.

How do I turn a guide price into a firm price?

A firm price comes from a free site survey, followed by an itemised written quotation valid for 90 days. The survey is free for new work, and on islands and in remote areas it is by arrangement.

  1. Get a guide figure for your width and materials.
  2. Book the survey. We measure the opening, check the structure and photograph the frontage.
  3. We send one itemised quotation and one drawing.
  4. You check the drawing and accept the quotation. Nothing is ordered before this.
  5. Aluminium frames take 3 to 4 weeks after drawing sign-off, steel frames 5 to 6 weeks, and shutters 2 to 3 weeks after survey.

Start with the quote tool for a guide figure, or see every figure on the prices page. If planning or landlord consent may apply, read our planning guide before you commit to a date.

Common questions

Is a package cheaper than buying the shopfront and shutter separately?

A package guide price is the two parts added together and rounded, so the price is not the reason to choose it. The gain is one survey, one drawing, one contract and one fitting team.

Do these prices include VAT?

No. All our figures are guide prices plus VAT. VAT at the standard rate of 20% is added to the final invoice.

Do the guide prices cover a shopfront taller than 3 m?

The bands assume a standard height of up to about 3 m. A taller opening is priced from the survey.

How long does a quotation stay valid?

Our itemised written quotation is valid for 90 days, and nothing is ordered until you accept it.
