What else should you know?
Does a shutter need planning permission?
An external shutter usually does. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. An internal grille or shutter is usually the safer route, so we can advise what to check before you order.
How is the shutter controlled?
By key switch, remote or both, and we specify a manual override for power cuts. Keep the override instructions somewhere that staff can find them.
Will I get something in writing?
Yes. A service visit ends with a written condition report that you can keep for your landlord or insurer.
Will this need planning permission in Edinburgh?
Probably, if it is external. City of Edinburgh Council decides. Many councils resist solid external shutters, and some resist perforated ones too. In Scotland, work can also need a building warrant before it starts, and listed buildings need listed building consent from the council.
